We’ve all heard of mainstream apps such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and Snapchat, but using your phone is more fun when you use underrated apps on it. Did you know there’s an app through which you can help with cancer research only by sleeping? Intriguing, isn’t it?

There are a lot of other underrated apps that you can use and you would be amazed at what those apps can do. Here are some of my favorite apps that you should try too, if you haven’t already:

DreamLab

DreamLab is an app that focuses on your phone’s power consumption as you sleep. DreamLab supports cancer research by letting your phone conduct research. The app harnesses your phone’s processing power so that it can process calculations for cancer research projects. As you use the app, the calculation process speeds up.

This way you can play your part in looking for a cure to cancer. The best part is that the entire process is powered by your phone while you charge it. When the app completes its calculations, it forwards the data to the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. The app is free to use on both iOS and Android.

PhotoScan by Google Photos

If you have Google Photos and have purchased the premium version of it, then you should have PhotoScan which is an extension of the app. You can scan your old printed photos using PhotoScan so that you can enhance the result.

All you have to do is hold your phone on top of the image and then move your phone in the way that the app tells you to. The app then scans the images, combines them, and enhances the photo with brilliant results. Though the app can’t work as well as an actual scanner, PhotoScan does a pretty decent job.

The app uses Google’s AI (Artificial Intelligence) for color calibration and glare removal. It also crops the picture automatically so you don’t have to do it manually. It reads the edges of the picture and crops out the unnecessary background. You can then back up your scanned photos to Google Photos.

Programming Hub

Whether you agree or not, the future depends on technology. One of the best ways to keep up to speed with the tech industry is if you have a cursory knowledge of coding, every device and application that you use has millions of lines of code behind it. Your phone, your favorite video games, and even the webpage you are looking at right now; everything is powered by an intricate code behind it.

Learning to code isn’t that hard you can use Programming Hub to learn coding languages right from the comfort of your home. There are over 20 programming languages that you can learn through the app including Java, Python, HTML, and so on. The best part is, that you can download the app on both Android and iOS devices!

However, do keep in mind that you lose your progress if you quit the app mid-lesson even if your internet goes out. This makes a reliable internet connection a need of the hour. Using reliable Xfinity Internet will ensure that you don’t lose track of your progress so that you can learn your desired programming languages better!

Stellarium Mobile Sky Map

This app is for the ones that take a keen interest in astronomy. The Stellarium Mobile Sky Map allows you to explore the night sky to learn more about stars, various constellations, and planets just with a swipe and a tap. You can also use the GPS feature to wave your phone around and look at constellations in different directions.

The app also features illustrations of different mythical creatures by constellation, which makes the process even more interesting. However, there are only details about stars and planets but you can’t find in-depth information about constellations. Also, if you have an iPhone then you can’t find a free tier for the app, you’ll have to purchase the premium version.

Spotted by Locals

If you are a frequent traveler, Spotted by Locals is a must-have app for you. This app especially comes in handy when you are traveling to another country. The app recommends places you can visit based on suggestions from users who are locals there, ensuring that you make the most of your experience.

This way, you can not only visit the mainstream places but also the underrated places like a local. The travel guides can be accessed online, that too with updated information. The app can also help you avoid tourist traps and potential scams as well. Keep in mind that the complete city guides require purchases, so only purchase guides for the cities that you know for sure that you’ll visit.

The app is available on both Android and iOS, so you don’t have to worry about which device you have.

Another App You Probably Didn’t Know

Did you know that you can remotely access your PC using your smartphone, and that too for free? You can use the Chrome Remote Desktop by Google for free and with full functionality. All you have to do is install an extension on your Chrome browser to access your PC from anywhere in the world, using an active internet connection. It works for the whole PC and not just the Chrome browser!
